A word from the Head Coach himself – Ian Jenner

Our hunger is not for success but for excellence, because when an athlete attains excellence then success naturally follows. We embraced this philosophy during the past few seasons with the team at Birkirkara St Joseph and now with Bike It Up Racing in 2025. The development of riders such as John Camilleri, Daniel Briffa in 2024 and Matthew Portelli at the end of the season shows that hard work and consistency pay off with these riders on the podium of many races in Malta last year.

As a Coach I work alongside the riders running training camps, pre/post-race catch ups as well as designing focused individual training for the athlete based around the time and availability to train.

I have over 45+ years of experience racing bikes in most disciplines from Road, MTB and the Track as well as ITT, racing both in the UK and in Italy where Rule 5 Cycling Coaching is based.

For the past 11 years I have been a full time Coach with British Cycling and Training Peaks with the qualification to Coach the above disciplines. Over this time, I have been fortunate to Coach athletes from the Team GB Academy as well as many U23 Pro Continental riders and those racing and at club level too. I have good personal relationships with a number of current World Tour Teams, Coaches and cyclists alike.

It’s a pleasure to work with Bike It Up Racing and we look forward to more success going forward. There are several opportunities for Coaching this year, the details of which are attached.

Direct 1:1 Coaching Plans

STRAIGHT PLAN €40

The plan will be on Training Peaks and a username and password will be given to access the account. The plan will have three weeks built and available to see – always. The plan will work on a three week build with one week recovery and will also factor in taper weeks for races/events etc.

It’s a plan that you can access do the workouts and move onto the next one. There will be gym/core/weight sessions here also.

PLAN FOR THE INDIVIDUAL €60

Just like the ‘Straight Plan’ BUT the plan is built for you as an individual. Again, no feedback BUT message me and I will change the plan – move things and also give you help with pre- race nutrition, tactics and catch up with you every six weeks or so to see how you are going. The account on Training Peaks also yours NOT a generic one so much more flexibility for you.

5* you all the way, feedback, endless messages, questions, help with races, workout feedback for EVERY workout you do. It’s all singing, all dancing and its YOUR account for you built around you with your goals and objectives as a main focus (same as I do with John). I am also happy to try to adapt these to suit what you are looking for as maybe you want a bit of Option 1 with a mix of Option 3 so happy to chat further individually or as part of a group

Training Plans

ENDURANCE TRAINING PLAN €45 – 12 WEEKS

Endurance training is the backbone of a cyclist’s ability. It’s about building upwards, starting with a solid aerobic foundation and it will support everything else you want to do with your cycling. This plan will help develop mitochondrial density; increased capillarization and enzyme production also. The body will also become more effective at using fat as a fuel source so helping body composition. This plan is perfect for those that want to develop their aerobic strength and to develop themselves as a cyclist to take on challenges at a later date.

RACING PLAN €45 – 12 WEEKS

A plan to get you ready for Racing, covering not only time on the bike but off it too with core, weights, leg and strength exercises. The plan will help you develop your ability and technique on the bike too enabling you to be more efficient and stronger as the weeks go on.

The sessions are easy to upload to your device with TP workout build making it simple to follow and with the conditioning workouts there are simple videos to watch to help you develop your technique.

The plan is based on two rides at the weekend with three that can be done either on a trainer with Zwift/Trainer Road or outside depending on which you prefer. A plan with plenty of flexibility for you to achieve your goals!

V02 DEVELOPMENT PLAN €30 – 6 WEEKS

FTP is not moving; fitness has plateaued then this is the plan for you! VO2 is all about improving the amount of oxygen your body can consume and with doing short hard efforts it’s going to help that. The more you improve VO2 max, the greater your capacity to intake and utilize oxygen, and the higher the ceiling of your aerobic ability. So not only improving your aerobic capacity but also improving VO2 max can raise your FTP and fractional utilization, meaning you can ride at a greater percentage of your cycling VO2 max for longer!

FTP DEVELOPMENT PLAN €30 – 6 WEEKS

Trying to increase your FTP and it’s not moving then this plan is for you! The plan covers 6 weeks and approx. 8 hours a week on the bike which most of us can incorporate into our family/work/life week. This is a plan that has balanced intensity and volume with perfect recovery allowing you to embrace the hard work that you are doing to increase your current FTP value. Your FTP is a measure of your fitness on a bike that is decided by how long you can sustain a consistent effort for over a specified period of time…. This plan covers all the factors you need to cover to improve your current value!
